WSN Eagle baseball sweeps Monroe County

W.S. Neal’s varsity and junior varsity baseball teams both defeated Monroe County by nine runs Tuesday in Monroeville to improve their records.
The JV Eagles defeated Monroe County 11-2 while the varsity Eagles took a 13-4 win.
Stats for the JV game were not known as of press time. The win improved the JV Eagles to 6-1. The win for the varsity Eagles improved them to 8-4 overall with their third straight win.
For the varsity Eagles against Monroe County, W.S. Neal led 5-2 after the fourth inning before plating five runs in the top of the fourth inning to go on top 10-2.
Monroe County would cut the Eagle lead to 10-4 after scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, but W.S. Neal would hold Monroe County scoreless the remainder of the game while adding three more runs in the top of the seventh inning to help get the nine-run win.
Dylan Godwin got the start and the win on the mound for the Eagles. Godwin went the first two innings and allowed two walks, three hits, one unearned run and struck out two.
Christian Purvis went the third and fourth innings for the Eagles and allowed one hit and struck out one.
Brian Settle went the final three innings for W.S. Neal against Monroe County and allowed three hits, one walk, two runs and struck out three.
At the plate for the Eagles, Purvis was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI double in the second inning.
Damian Williams was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Logan Williamson was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.
Hunter Mullins was 1-for-3 with two walks and three stolen bases in the win for the Eagles.
W.S. Neal’s varsity team was set to play at Jackson in an area game Thursday and at home against Jackson on Friday. The Eagles, along with the JV team, will play at home against Flomaton on Monday at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
The W.S. Neal Eagle baseball team dropped an 11-1 decision at No. 1 Jackson in an area game Thursday to fall to 8-5 overall and 0-1 in area play.
The game was tied 1-1 in the fourth inning until Jackson had a grand slam and a homerun to help take the win by 10 runs.
The two teams were set to play in East Brewton Friday in a doubleheader.
W.S. Neal will be back in action Monday at home against Flomaton at 6 p.m. with the JV playing at 4 p.m.
W.S. Neal’s JV team will play at the Monroe County JV tournament on Saturday.
Game times are versus Monroe County at 9 a.m, Excel at 10:45 a.m., and Bayside Academy at 2:15 p.m.
