Mrs. Nellie Thaniel Mallard, 82, died March 10, 2010. She was a native of Monroeville and a resident of Des Moines, Iowa, for some time. She was employed at Country Club of Brewton for 35 years before she moved to Des Moines in 1998. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nathaniel and Buffers Stallworth Mallard; three children, a stillborn son, a daughter, who died of SIDS at the age of two months; a son John who was a master sergeant in the Air Force; five siblings, Ida Mae Drakeford, Melvin Askew, Alberta Mallard, Joe Lewis Mallard and Ola Mae Howard.
She is survived by her children, Minnie Mallard of DesMoines, Christopher Mallard of Hawthorne, Calif., and Susie Weston of Tampa, Fla.; her sisters, Lois Mallard, Vera Montgomery and Virginia Gunn; her brothers, Elder Willie Mallard, Henry Mallard, Carey Mallard and McArthur Mallard; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and her extended family and friends in Des Moines and Alabama.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 18, at 11 a.m. at Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. William Brown officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.
