The Brewton Little League has announced its plans for Opening Day  Saturday, March 27 at the YMCA Sports Park.
For the first time, baseball will be joined by the first Little League softball season as the two kick off their respective seasons.
BLL baseball ceremonies will begin at 10 a.m., with the introduction of the three 9-10 year olds teams. Following its opening ceremony, the Braves and the Marlines will play at 10:30 a.m., followed by a break before play is resumed with a 1 p.m. game between the Marlins and Astros. At 2:30 p.m., the Astros will take on the Braves.
At 4:30 p.m., the 11-12 year olds will participate in their opening ceremony, which will include the introduction of the four teams. The two Brewton All-Star teams who won District 5 championships in 2009 will be recognized as well. Last year’s 9-10 champs as well as last year’s 11-year-old tournament champions – both of whom earned berths in the Alabama State Tournament – will be introduced. The teams’ respective championship signs will be unveiled on the outfield fence of Field C.
Following those ceremonies, the Rockies will take on the Brewers at 5 p.m. on Field B, while the Tigers and Rangers will play on Field C.
In addition, Brewton Little League softball will celebrate its first season, beginning at 9:00 a.m. After the introductions of the teams in both age divisions (9-10 and 11-12), play will begin at 9:30 a.m. On Field A, 9-10 games will include the Racers vs. Red Hots (9:30), Red Hots vs. Riptide (10:15) and the Riptide will play the Racers (11:00). Field D will host the older league, with the Force playing the Heat (9:30), Heat taking on the Thunder (10:15) and the Thunder battling the Force (11:00).
All three opening ceremonies will include an opening prayer, ceremonial first pitch and the playing of the National Anthem.
