The first in a series of free movies to be held during the spring and summer will be shown during spring break next week.
City of Brewton recreation Director Gary Hill said the first movie will be shown at 6 p.m. Friday, April 16, at the community center behind city hall.
Hill said the public’s attendance is important to keep the movie series going through the summer.
The names of the movies will be shown on the message board downtown, although they cannot be printed in the newspaper, Hill said.
Hill said the movies will be shown in different locations around town, such as the community center, Dogwood Hills and in Burnt Corn Park.
The first movie will be in the community center and is free to the public. Hill said the building will hold 200 people, and arrangements are being worked out to have some concession items for movie-goers to purchase.
Any group that might be interested in running the concession stand can contact Hill at 809-1750.
The movie system was purchased as part of the 2009 Leadership Brewton class project. Class members raised money from various individuals, groups and businesses in the community.
Hill said he hopes the spring and summer movie series will draw a lot of residents. The city first showed a movie in the community center last December.
