Several area physicians attended a recent awards program in Huntsville sponsored by the Medical Association of the State of Alabama.
Dr. Elizabeth Low, Dr. Dan Raulerson, Dr. Marsha Raulerson, Dr. and Mrs. John Vanlandingham and Dr. and Mrs. Robert L. Hayes Jr. all attended the program, where Dr. Hayes was recognized as part of the 50 Year Club. The 50 Year Club recognizes doctors who have been licensed to practice medicine for 50 years.
Dr. Hayes is a graduate of the University of Alabama School of Medicine and his internship training was at Orange Memorial Hospital in Orlando, Fla.
He served as a family practice physician in Brewton for 35 years. He is a member and former president of the Escambia County Medical Society and a member of Alpha Omega Alpha. He has been a member of the Medical Association of the State of Alabama since 1962.
Dr. Hayes’ favorite aspect of practicing medicine was the relationship he established with his patients in a small town environment.
In addition to the other activities, the group was treated to a few words from Dr. Regina M. Benjamin, the new U.S. surgeon general.
