JDCC softball gets split, heads to state

Monday’s rescheduled softball game for the Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawk softball team against Bishop State was good for two reasons.
Not because of the smell of the BBQ plates cooking at the game for their fundraiser but because it was sophomore recognition day and their 5-3 win in game one clinched a playoff spot for the team.
JDCC’s two-run win in game one improved them to 22-29 overall and to 7-12 in conference play.
JDCC lost game two 7-4 to end their regular season 22-30 overall and 7-13.
Earlier in the week, JDCC lost 8-1 and 8-0 at PJC and split with Enterprise with a 1-0 win in game one and a 6-3 loss in game two.
JDCC 5, Bishop 3
Aleah Payne had two homeruns and three RBIs and was 2-for-3 at the plate in game one to help JDCC with a 5-3 win.
JDCC led 1-0 after the first inning after Payne’s first homerun of the game, but fell to three runs in the top of the second inning to trail 3-1.
In the third inning, Payne hit her second homerun of the game, this time a two-run homerun, to tie the game at 3-3.
The Lady Warhawks would add one run in the fifth inning and one in the sixth inning for the two-run win.
Payne was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two homeruns in the win and Tiffany Duncan was 1-for-3.
Kristen Myers was 1-for-2 with one RBI and CaSandra Yarbrough was 1-for-3.
Lauren Marshall was 1-for-3 and Candice Lawrence was 2-for-4. Sarah Dunaway was 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI and Elise Schanley was 1-for-2.
Brittany Linton earned the win on the mound as she went the complete game and allowed three runs on seven hits, walked four and struck out three.
Bishop 7, JDCC 4
In game two, JDCC gave up four runs in the first inning and fell behind 7-0 after the top of the fifth before rallying with four runs in the bottom of the inning to lose by three.
Duncan was 1-for-3 with a double and Megan Denney was 2-for-3 with a double.
Myers was 1-for-3 with a double and Yarbrough was 1-for-2. Payne was 1-for-4 and Marshall was 1-for-1 with a double.
Lawrence was 1-for-3 with one RBI and Dunaway was 1-for-1 with one RBI.
Schanley was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a triple.
Yarbrough took the loss on the mound as she went four innings and allowed six runs, three earned, on seven hits.
Jessica Myrick went the final three innings and allowed one earned run on three hits, and struck out one.
JDCC 1, Enterprise 0
JDCC scored the lone run of the game in the fourth inning to win 1-0.
Linton earned the win going the complete game and allowing no runs, three hits, walked two and struck out seven.
Payne was 1-for-3 with he lone RBI and Dunaway was 2-for-3.
Enterprise 6, JDCC 3
JDCC lost game two to Enterprise 6-3.
Marshall was 1-for-3 with one RBI along with Schanley in the loss.
Yarbrough and Myrick pitched in the loss for JDCC.
