William C. Rogers III

Mr. William C. Rogers, III, died Friday, Aug. 27, at Russell Medical Center in Alexander City.

“Billy” was born June 28, 1935, in Brewton. He was employed by the Lighthouse of Tallapoosa County in 1983 and was appointed executive director in 1990. He remained in that position until his retirement in 2005. Billy was instrumental in establishing the excellent reputation of the Lighthouse and devoted his life to helping others in their journey to a better life. The Rogers Anchor, a new facility at the Lighthouse, was built that year and dedicated to him for his service and leadership.

He is survived by his sister Martha Ann Smith, husband Bobby of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; Son Dale Rogers, wife Amy of Vidor, Texas; daughter Susan Shelton, husband Jessie, of Walker, La.; grandchildren, Austin Shelton, wife Emily, and Matthew Rogers; and great-grandchildren Savannah Shelton and Tyler Browning.

A private family burial will be held in Brewton.

A celebration of his life will be held at the Lighthouse on Sunday, Sept. 12, from 2 to 4 pm.
