Donald Morris Lanier Jr.

Mr. Donald Morris Lanier Jr., 73, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010, at his residence after a brief illness. He was a native of Damascus and a long-time resident of East Brewton. He was a 1955 graduate of W.S. Neal High School and retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years of service. He was also retired from the U. S. Post Office after 11 years of service. He was a Mason and member of Norris Lodge 301 and a ball room dance instructor at Jefferson Davis Community College and Alabama Southern Community College.

He is survived by a son, Michael (Brenda) Lanier of Deer Park, Texas; two daughters, Terry (Bill) Gillis and Candy Mallet, both of Brewton; three brothers, Sidney Lanier of Brewton, Bobby Lanier of Atmore, and Frankie Lanier of East Brewton; a sister, Yvonne Schwartz of Theodore; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a special friend and dance partner, Hazel Higdon of Atmore.

Graveside services with full military honors will be held Wednesday, Oct. 6, at 2 p.m. at Barrancus National Cemetery in Pensacola, Fla. with a military chaplain officiating and Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Covenant Hospice or American Cancer Society.
