Ethel Jewel Lewis

Mrs. Ethel Jewel Lewis, 81, died Monday, Sept. 28, 2010. She was a native of Union Springs, a resident of Garland and a long-time resident of Brewton. She was a graduate of Bethlehem Industrial Academy in Monroeville. She later completed cosmetology training and relocated to Brewton. She was an employee of D.W. McMillian Memorial Hospital for more than 41 years. She was an active member of the community and was active in the Bergen Memorial Reformed Church of America and at Zion A.M.E. Zion Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Walter “Jake” Lewis; a daughter, Gail Denise Lewis; two brothers, James Cowan and Ben Cowan; and a sister, Pauline Gray.

She is survived by a daughter, Kimii (Rufus) Felder; a son, Walter (Rena) Lewis; granddaughters, Shannon (Ric) Clark, Kristin Lewis, Kirsten Lewis and Christiana Lewis; grandsons, Kenneth (Melissa) Felder; John Walter Lewis, Jacob Lewis, and Joseph Lewis; great-grandchildren, Maya Jewel Felder, Karson Felder, Koen Felder, Kannon Felder, Jaden Clark and Christian Clark; sisters, Dorothy Hudson, Edna Clark and Carolyn (Larry) Wood; brothers, Adolph (Johnnie) Cowan, Marcellers Cowan, Leon Cowan, Cheryl (Tanya) Cowan, Carnell Cowan and Isiah (Peaches) Cowan; and a host of other friends and relatives.

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 4, at 11 a.m. at Zion Fountain AME Zion Church with the Rev. H.K. Matthews officiating. Burial followed at Bergen Memorial Cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.
