John “Big John Sonny Boy” Morton II, 68, of Brewton, died Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at his residence after a brief illness. He was a native and life-long resident of Escambia County. Mr. Morton was a member of Cannan Freewill Baptist Church and retired from Masland Carpet with 35 years of service.

Survivors include one son, Chad (Rachel) Morton of Brewton; one daughter, Angie Morton (David) Messmer of Brewton; one sister, Charlotte (Dwight) Grant of Brewton; five grandchildren, Taylor Messmer, Alyssa Messmer, Andrew Messmer, Aaron Morton and Kristen Morton.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Williams Chapel Memorial Funeral Home.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, May 13, 11 a.m. at Williams Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Clyde Bruley and Speaker Kevin Fillmore officiating. Interment will follow in New Bethelhem Cemetery Barnett Cross Roads Community in Brewton.
