Mrs. Ida Mae Lewis Smith, 92, died Thursday, July 7, 2011 at a local hospital. She was a native of Auburn, Miss., and a former resident of New Orleans, La., before moving to McComb. She was an active member of East McComb Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Smith; her parents, Zack and Julia Lewis; a sister, Lillian Lewis; three brothers, Harvey Lewis, Arthur Lewis and Ben Lewis; and a grandson, Tony Upchurch.
She is survived by a son, Joel (Betty) Smith of Magnolia, Miss.; a daughter, Ginger Smith (David) Upchurch of Brewton; a sister, Kathryn Martin of Smithdale, Miss.; four grandchildren, Kevin Smith of Magnolia, Allison Smith (Brett) Johnson of McComb, Belinda Upchurch (Steven) Dickey of Brewton, Holly Upchurch of Decatur, Ga. and two great-grandsons, Wes Dickey and Caleb Dickey, both of Brewton; and a number of other relatives.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 11, at 10 a.m. at Catchings Funeral Home in McComb, with the Rev. Barry Ward officiating, Burial followed at Hollywood Cemetery with Catchings Funeral Home directing.
