Velma Lucile Dewberry Sawyer, 96, of Castleberry, died Oct. 3, 2011 at her home in the Sandcut community. She was a lifelong member of the London Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wallace Sawyer; and her children, Austin Jerome Sawyer and Wallace Wayne Sawyer.

She is survived by six children, Charles (Sarah) Sawyer, Joyce Gleaves, Eleanor (Eddie) Lambert, Donald (Hilda) Sawyer, Sylvia (Bill) Browning, Marilyn (Barry) Vonderau; a daughter-in-law, Dorthy Sawyer Crispin; 74 grandchildren; and dozens of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Oct. 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Craver’s Funeral Home on U.S. 31 South.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 7 at 2 p.m. from the London Baptist Church on County Road 6 in Castleberry. Burial will follow at Rumah Primitive Baptist Church cemetery in Lenox.

Craver’s Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
