Mrs. Helen Gafford Aughtman, died Oct. 16, 2011, in a local hospital after a brief illness.  She was a native of Sandy Ridge, the youngest of five children, moving to Brewton  in 1945.  She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church for 61 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lorenzo Dowe Aughtman; and her daughter, Deborah Dowe (Steven) Ronilo; two sisters, her brother, her son-in-law and two special nephews.
She is survived by her brother, Frederick Gafford; her daughter, Mary Claire Janiga, of Midlothian, Va.; her son, Dowe (Brenda) Aughtman; seven grandchildren, William C. Fouts, Jr., Mary Helen Janiga King (Eric), Chad Ronilo, Mason Ronilo, Degnan Ronilo, Catherine Aughtman Littlepage (Scott), Sarah Aughtman; and four great-grandsons – Degnan, Liam, and McCormick King, and Noah Littlepage.  She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews and wonderful friends.
Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Brewton on Saturday, October 22, at 10 a.m. with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
