Joseph ‘J.D.’ Benjamin Reid Jr.

Mr. Joseph Benjamin “J.B.” Reid Jr., 75, died  Friday, December 30, 2011 at his residence in Brewton after an extended illness. He was a native of Dawson, Ga., and a former resident of Gulf Shores, before moving to Brewton. He retired from D.W. McMillan Hospital after 27 years of service in the maintenance department and he was a member of Capitola Baptist Church in Tallahassee, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents,  Joseph Benjamin Reid, Sr. and  Nancy Reid Highnote; a grandson, Jason Brown; a sister, Ida Highnote Peak and nephews, Sidney Peak and Elvin Peak.
He is survived by five children, Gayle Duncan of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Cindy Herrington of Clearwater, Fla., Joseph Benjamin ‘Jay’ Reid III of Brewton, Pennye Brown and John Earl Reid, both of Tampa, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Thomas Herrington, Dawn Wood, Amanda Brown, Christie Herrington, Kori Duncan, Kaylee Williams and Jonathan Reid; and two great-grandchildren, Harmony Herrington and Thomas Herrington.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 3, at 11 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Speaker Walter Bracken officiating. Burial followed in Damascus Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
