Mrs. Betty Ruth Downing McLennan, 72, of Rosemary Avenue, died Wednesday, May 16, 2012 in a local nursing facility after a brief illness. She was a native of Mobile, a former resident of Belleille, and a long time resident of Escambia County. She was a member of the East Brewton First United Methodist Church, a 1957 graduate of W.S. Neal High School and a graduate of Judson College in Marion, West Georgia College and Livingston University. She taught school in Pensacola, Fla., Dallas, Texas, Birmingham, and a retired elementary school teacher from the Brewton City School System with 23 years of service. She is preceded in death by her husband, Larry McLennan.
She is survived by former students and friends, Marcia DeGraaf and Shae Walker, both of Brewton, and Vicki Thornton of Birmingham.
Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon May 20, 2 until 3 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Brewton.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 20, at 3 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John Mathieu and the Rev. George Weaver officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
