Charles Johnson

Mr. Charles Johnson, 88, died April 13, 2013. He was a native of the Johnsonville community of Conecuh County but was a resident of California for many years. He was employed in several positions but spent most of his life working in the construction industry as a drywal technician. He was of the Protestant faith and was preceded in death by his parents, Anderson and Janie Benjamin-Jones-Johnson; his wife, Gertrude; two sons, John L. Mallard and Paul A. Johnson; a stepson, James Earl Caldwell; three sisters, Viney Johnson, Leona Johnson-Madkins and Matilda Johnson-Stevens; three brothers, David, Houston and Willie Johnson; and two brothers-in-law, Jimmy Madkins and Alex J. Stevens.
He is survived by his children, Ray, Charles, Earnest, Queen, Minnie Lee, Christopher, Janie, HazelĀ  and Iona Johnson, all of California; one stepdaughter, Minnie Lindsey of Omaha, Neb.; three brothers, Hiliria Johnson and John (Betty) Johnson of Brewton, and Anderson Johnson of Brooklyn, Ala.; two sisters-in-law, Ruby Johnson of Oznard, Calif., and Willie Mae Johnson of Valencia, Calif.; and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 22, at 1 p.m. at Johnsonville Memorial Church of God in Christ in Evergreen with Elder R. Hughes and the Rev. Willie N. Johnson officiating. Burial followed at Sandy grove Church Cemetery in Evergreen with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.
