The wake of Albertha Vickers Ewing will be held on Fri., Nov. 4, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Christian Memorial Funeral Home in Brewton off of Hwy 41 North.

Funeral services will be held Sat., Nov. 5, at 11 a.m. at Baptist Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Brewton located on Sowell Road.

Lillian Lucile Warr Caswell

Brewton

Lillian Lucile Warr Caswell, 88, of Scott Street in Brewton, passed away Sun., Oct. 30, 2016, in a local nursing facility after a brief illness.

Visitation will be held Wed., Nov. 2, from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton.

Funeral services are scheduled to follow at 4 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Yuhasz officiating.

Interment will be held Thurs., Nov. 3, 2016, at 11 a.m. in Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Fla. with the Rev. David Gibson officiating and Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton directing.

She was a native of Brewton and a former resident of Geneva, before moving back to Brewton.

She was a member of the Alco Baptist Church. She was the former den mother for the Cub Scouts and was a homemaker.

She is survived by her children, Jackie (Jim) Gay of Brewton, Jessie (Mike) Weeks of Kinston and Bobby Caswell of Luverne; grandchildren, Lisa Greer, Laura Craig, Dusty Weeks, Graham Weeks, Paula Beck and Lee Caswell; great grandchildren, Gracie Greer, Emrys Greer, Aila Weeks, Lillian Kynshee Beck, Linlee Kate Beck and Mary Renae Caswell; and brother, Robert (Mary) Warr of Brewton.

She is preceded in death by her husband, William D. Caswell; parents, Alfred and Allie Ruth McGraw; step-mother, Louise Warr; sister, Nellie Ruth Warr; and brothers, Gene Warr, Mason Warr and James Warr.

James Leroy Odom

Flomaton

James “Pee Wee” Leroy Odom, 80, of Adkinson Lane, Flomaton, passed away Wed., Oct. 26, 2016 in a Robertsdale, nursing facility after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Sun., Oct. 30, at 2 p.m. at New Bethlehem Church, Flomaton, with Rev. Jesse Bohannon officiating. Interment followed in New Bethlehem Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

He was a native and life long resident of Escambia County. He was a member of New Bethlehem Church, a 1956 graduate of W.S. Neal High School, a retired brick mason and pipe fitter from the construction industry and an avid hunter/fisherman.

He is survived by a son, Jamie Odom of Atmore; three brothers, Billy Odom and Autrey Odom, both of Atlanta, Ga. and Ronnie Odom of Birmingham; and sisters, Charlotte Odom of Oklahoma, Jeanie Odom Wescott of Panama City, Fla., and Delores Rawls of Atmore.

Nolan Earl Smith

Brewton

Nolan Earl Smith, 60, of Scott Street in Brewton, passed away Wed., Oct. 26, 2016, in a local hospital after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Fri., Oct. 28,  at 3 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Watson, the Rev. Ethel Gary and the Rev. Bobbie Pugh officiating.

Interment followed in New Hopewell Cemetery, Castleberry, with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

He was a native and life long resident of Brewton. He was of the Holiness faith and had attended W.S. Neal School.

He is survived by two brothers, Laymon Smith and Charlie Smith, both of Brewton; a sister, Debra (Eddie) Brown of Riverview; a special uncle, Raymond Burch of Brewton; three nieces and nephews, Ruby, James and Charlie; three great-nieces and nephews, Hosea, Nacho and Joseph.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Estelle Burch Smith and his stepfather, Robert Smith.

Mamie Rose Morgan Chisum

Andalusia

Mamie Rose Morgan Chisum, 74, of Andalusia, passed away Fri., Oct. 21, 2016, in Pace, Fla., after a brief illness surrounded by her immediate family.

A memorial service will be held at Foreman Brown Funeral Home in Andalusia on Sat., Nov. 5, at 11 a.m.

She was born in Andalusia, and graduated from Red Level High School in 1961. She was of Baptist faith. She was a homemaker most of her life and in later years she devoted her time to the charitable organization, Meredith’s Miracles, Inc. in Andalusia.

She was preceded in death by her husband of over 40 years, Roy Parker Chisum; her parents, Marvin Bishop and Mamie Lee Morgan; and brothers Durwood Morgan and Marvin Glenn Morgan.

She is survived by her two daughters, Angela Chisum Blackburn (Mike) of Pace, and Natalia Chisum Foster (Buddy) of Red Level; a son, Christopher Roy Chisum of Milton, Fla.; a grandson, Nicholas Miller White of Andalusia; and seven step-grandchildren, Michael (Lisa) Blackburn of Tallahassee, Leigh Diamond of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Beth Ann (Josh) Marky of Crestview, Fla., Sam Blackburn of Pace, Fla., and Lane, Payton and Ansley Foster of Opp.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Meredith’s Miracles, Inc. P.O. Box 2032, Andalusia, AL 36420-1234 or Waterfront Rescue Mission of Pensacola, 380 West Herman Street Pensacola, FL 32505 in honor of her charity work.

Charles Evon Johnson

Flomaton

Charles Evon Johnson, 79, passed away on Wed., Oct. 26, 2016 in Flomaton.

Funeral services were held Sat., Oct. 29, at 3 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Mitch Herring and Rev. Ricky Tedder officiating.

Burial followed at the Poplar Dell Cemetery with Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Pallbearers were Willie Johnson, Judson Carden Jr., Alex Gibbs, Ethan Bomba, Trevor Bomba and Phillip Gibbs.

Honorary pallbearers were Carl Gandy, Douglas Johnson, Judson Carden and Glen Johnson.

He was a native and life long resident of Flomaton. He was a Deacon, a member of the Alabama Forestry Association and the Poplar Dell Baptist Church. He owned Timber Transport, Evon’s Trucking and Southern Truck Repair.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Grace Johnson; his parents, Earl and Era Mae Johnson; and two infant siblings, a boy and girl.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda M. Johnson of Flomaton; five daughters, Barbara (David) Adams, Charlene “Charlie” Johnson and Brittanie Grace Johnson, all of Flomaton, Debra (Charlie) Yoder of Brewton, Krystal Bomba of Bay Minette; one step-son, Jerry Wayne Carnley Jr. of Flomaton; one step-daughter, Karen Stacey of Flomaton; two brothers, Glen (Dolores) Johnson of

Flomaton, and Douglas (Jacque) Johnson of Pineview; one sister, Delores (Judson) Carden of Flomaton; eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

 

Edna Kitchens McCarty Bobo

Brewton

Edna Kitchens McCarty Bobo, 94, passed away Sat., Oct. 29, 2016, in Brewton.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tues., Nov. 1, 2016, in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

She was a native of Sumter County, Ga., and the daughter of the late Virgil Calvin Kitchens and the late Jessie Lou Clark Kitchens.

She was a former member of Northern Heights Baptist Church and member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the 39’ers in Cordele. She moved her church membership to Brewton First Baptist when she relocated to Brewton.

She was predeceased by her husbands Thomas W. McCarty and Quinton A. Bobo. She was also predeceased by her sons, Tommy McCarty, Jerry McCarty and James McCarty; and her daughter: Helen McCarty Emerson.

She is survived by her children: Betty McCarty Smith and her husband J. T. of Cordele, Ga., Bobby McCarty of Cordele, Ga., Cheryl McCarty Collins of Cordele, Shirley McCarty Miley and her husband Ronny of Brewton, Ala. and Mary McCarty Merritt and her husband Jimmy of Cordele; 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Matthew Brydon Blakely

Birmingham

After a brief illness, Matthew Brydon Blakely passed away on Oct. 30, 2016, in Birmingham.

There will be a time of visitation on Fri., Nov. 4, 2016, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Craver’s Funeral Home.

He was born May 19, 1978, in Millinocket, Maine and lived many years in Georgia and Alabama. 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sheila Fernald Blakely.

He is survived by his father and step-mother, Robert and Hilda Blakely of Brewton. He is also survived by a devoted companion, Scott Richardson; and many other relatives.

Willie J. Salter, Jr.

Brewton

Willie J. Salter, Jr., 48, ended his battle of four years with lung cancer on Oct. 30, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family.  He worked offshore in production for 30 years.  He was an avid hunter, fisherman and farmer.

A visitation will be held at Craver’s Funeral Home on Sat., Nov. 5, 2016, from 4 p.m. until 5:30 p.m., and a memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Craver’s Funeral Home directing.

He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife of 24 years, Kim Salter; his son Hayden; and his daughter Destiny Salter (Monkey).
