Merlene Dubose Pate

Merlene Dubose Pate, 84, of Jay Road in Brewton passed away Tues. Nov. 7, 2017, in a Century, Fla., nursing facility after a brief illness.

Funeral Services were held Fri., Nov. 10, at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Greer officiating.

Pate was a native and life long resident of Escambia County. She was a member of the Damascus Assembly of God Church and the Divine Temple Church and was a former sewing machine operator at Judy Bond.

Her survivors are her two sons, James “Derby” (Sharon) Pate of Flomaton and Danny Pate of Brewton; her two brothers, Charles and Billy Dubose of Damascus; her sister, Margie Johnson of East Brewton; six grandchildren, Benita Grantham Howington, Brian (Tara) Grantham, Lisa Pate, Terry (Rhonda) Pate, Kristie (Jesse) Hamilton, Rhonda Odom; 11 great grandchildren; and three great great Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Pate, her daughter, Jamie Louise Pate Barlow, and her grandson, Tim Pate.

Elizabeth Lauren ‘Beth’ McDaniel

Lynn Haven

Elizabeth Lauren “Beth” McDaniel of Lynn Haven, Fla. passed away on Wed., Nov. 8, 2017.

She was born on May 7, 1973 in Milton, Fla. She graduated from Mosley High School in 1991 and went on to attend Auburn University.

She was preceded in death by her father, CDR Ronald Aubrey McDaniel; her grandparents, W.A. McDaniel and Alice Till Larkin Beall; and her aunt, Kandace Kelly McDaniel, all from Brewton.

She is survived by her mother, Beverly Beall McDaniel; her sister, Kate McDaniel Watson (Jeff) of Panama City; her aunt, Becky Beall Galdorisi (George) and family of Coronado, Calif.; and her uncle, Charles McDaniel and family from Brewton.

As a daughter in a military family, she was a Navy Brat who lived in Milton, Fla; Corpus Christi, Texas.; Virginia Beach, Va.; Lynn Haven, Fla.; Meridian, Miss.; and Sigonella, Sicily, Italy.

She is leaving, around the globe, friends and family whom she loved. She also loved animals. Her pets have included dogs, cats, rabbits, mice, turtles, a hedgehog, an opossum, and a duck.

Graveside services will be held today, Wed., Nov. 15, at 1 p.m. at Union Cemetery in Brewton, with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Memorial donations may be made to Holy Nativity Episcopal Church or the Bay County Humane Society in memory of Beth McDaniel.

Timothy Ray Simmons

Brewton

Timothy Ray Simmons, 38, of Brewton, passed away on Mon., Nov. 13, 2017, at his residence.

Visitation will be held on Fri., Nov. 17, from noon until 2 p.m. at Little Escambia Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Waylon Stuckey and the Rev. Otis Thames officitating. Interment will be at New Bethlehem Cemetery at Barnett Crossroads with Johnson Funeral Home directing.

Simmons was a 1997 graduate of Flomaton High School. He was a die-hard Alabama and Atlanta Braves fan. He had a smile that could light up a room. Tim showed great strength through his illness.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ollie and Kathamae Simmons; maternal grandparents, Floyd and Louise Emmons; and two brothers, Marcus and Trenton Simmons.

He is survived by his parents, Ray and Linda Simmons; sister, Tiffany (Scotty) White; niece and nephew, Taylor and Conner White, all of Brewton; along with a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
