Virgil Gene Boddiford, 77,  of Wilmington Island, Ga., passed away Tues., Mar. 17, 2020, at his residence after a lengthy illness surrounded by his immediate family members.

He served as an ensign in the U.S. Navy at Guam. He was the first male nursing student in Georgia and the first male president of the Student Nurses Association of Georgia, later became a CRNA at DePaul School of Anesthesia and worked throughout the southeast until he retired in 2017.

Gene loved the Lord and served as a Deacon. He loved to hunt and fish and will be remembered for his giving attitude and infectious laugh.

He is survived by the mother of his children, Elaine Palmer Boddiford of Dallas, Texas; his son, Nicolas Palmer Houston Boddiford of the home; his daughter, Mia Brooke Boddiford of North Richland Hills, Texas; a granddaughter, Angel Nicole McCraw of North Richland Hills, Texas; a brother, Edward (Judy) Boddiford; a sister-In-Law- Brenda Boddiford; many nieces and nephews; the W.H. Palmer family of Bradley, Ala. who were special family members to him.

Graveside Services were scheduled for Sat., Mar. 21, 2020, at 11AM at the Old Bradley Cemetery with Rev. David Elliott officiating.

Interment followed in the Old Bradley Cemetery, Bradley Community, Brewton, Ala. with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton directing.
