Frances Joann Harrison was born to the late Hubert and Queen Ester Harrison in Pensacola, Fla.,  on Aug.  23, 1942. Her earthly life ended Wednesday, Mar. 25, 2020.

“Joann”, as she was affectionately called, submitted her life to Christ at an early age and joined Baptist Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Brewton. Joann attended primary and secondary schools in Brewton and attended Booker T. Washington High School in Pensacola, Fla.

After high school Joann married Sellars “CJ” Johnson and they eventually moved to Oxnard, Calif. Joann attended Ventura Community College in Southern Calif. and held many jobs until her retirement later in life from IBM in Northern Calif.

While living in California, Joann joined and served at St. Paul Baptist Church in San Jose, Calif. Joann enjoyed cooking, passionately talking with friends and family and styling hair. When Joann retired from IBM she moved back to Brewton to be closer to her mother and other family members. To fill her free time, Joann styled hair and worked part-time as a housekeeper. She also enjoyed decorating her home and gardening in her yard.

Joann is remembered by most as a woman who was never short on words, opinions, advice, and laughter. She will be missed.

Joann is preceded in death by one granddaughter, LaVonnia Johnson.

She leaves to cherish her memories four children, Kenneth Johnson of Sunnyvale, Calif., Cynthia (Michael) McLaurin of Bastrop, Texas, Eric Augmon of Los Angeles, Calif. and Sean (Nicki) Williams of Morgan Hill, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Jewel Hamel of Sunnyvale, Calif., Vera (Willie) Lovelace of Palo Alto, Calif., and Becky McCreary of Brewton; one brother, Mack Harrison of Jacksonville, Fla.; two aunts, Emma Dennis of Pensacola, Fla.  and Bessie Presley of San Diego, Calif.; one uncle, Bueary (Ocie) Gant of Pensacola, Fla. She also leaves cherished memories to a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

During her brief illness Joann had several devoted family and friends, Aunt Emma Dennis, Cousin Patricia Augmon, Rufus and Jackie Thames, Claudia Lee and Lillie Samuel and many others.

Funeral services for Ms. Joann Harrison were held on Wednesday, Apr. 1, 2020,  at Presley-Fluker Funeral Chapel of Brewton, with Pastor Eric Andrews of Baptist Hill Missionary Baptist Church officiating.

Interment immediately followed funeral service at Baptist Hill Cemetery in Brewton.

Professional care and final arrangements were entrusted to Presley-Fluker Funeral Directors of Evergreen and Brewton, Ala.
