Mr. Wilburn Carlos Perry, age 86, of Brewton, Alabama passed away Thursday, June 18, 2020 at his residence. He was a native of Winfield, Alabama, and a former resident of Birmingham, Alabama, before moving to Brewton in 1961.
Mr. Perry was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Brewton where he was active in Sunday School and was a member of the choir programs. He was a 1954 graduate of Winfield High School and a graduate of Horn School of Drafting in Birmingham. He served in the 31st Dixie Division of the Alabama National Guard and until retirement, he worked as a mechanical engineer for Brewton Iron Works.
Mr. Perry was very involved with Little League Baseball serving as both a coach and an umpire. He also officiated area softball, basketball, and volleyball. He enjoyed bowling and square dancing but his greatest love was playing golf … almost every day!
Mr. Perry is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Jo Webster Perry, two sons Mike (Tammy Booker) Perry of Brewton, Ricky (Larisa) Perry of Destin, Florida, one daughter Tammy (Mitch) Jones of Atmore, Alabama and one sister, Louise White of Illinois. He is also survived by six grandchildren James (Lauren) Perry, Melissa (James) Hamric, Brooks (Cheryl) Perry, Barrett Perry, Ann Morgan Perry, and Perry Jones and five great grandchildren Thomas and Bennet Perry, Penelope and Sadie Perry, and Layla Perry. He was preceded in death by his father, Murray Perry, his mother Gertrude Burleson Perry Ponds, his grandson, Collin Lee Perry, and four siblings Oliver Perry, Arnold Perry, Jewel Dean Lyons and Earlene Earnest.
Due to the safety concerns of the coronavirus pandemic, the family has chosen to hold a private service. Donations in his memory can be made to the First Baptist Church Choir Program, the Donnie Rotch Scholarship fund at T. R. Miller High, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
