Armistead Jake Holmes, Jr. age 91 of Brewton, Alabama passed away on July 6, 2020.  He was born January 9, 1929 in the Hoomesville community and a lifetime resident of Escambia County, Alabama.

He was a member of the Brewton Church of Christ serving faithfully as a Sunday school teacher, deacon and elder.  After graduating from Damascus High School in 1947, he began working at T.R. Miller Mill Co. in the forestry division.  He held several positions and graduated from University of West Florida throughout his long career at T.R. Miller Mill Co. and retired as a vice president.

He was very fond of his family and genealogy and performed extensive research into the Hoomes/Holmes family.  He continued this work after retirement.  In retirement he became very active in church mission work serving in Inta, Russia, Lethem, Guyana and multiple trips to Morakabie, Guyana.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Judith Wilson Holmes of Brewton; two sons, Philip (Stefania) Holmes of Milton, FL, Jeff (Donna) Holmes of Brewton; seven grandchildren, Leslie Holmes, Austin Holmes, Ariana (Tyler) Watson, Adam Holmes, Philip Holmes, Jr., Anasstasja (Brian) Roesler, and Alexander Agey; and two great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents, Armistead Jake and Ella Frances Hoomes, one brother, Milford Hoomes; three sisters, Ethel Hoomes, Christine Baggett, and Mary Marjorie Lambert.

Visitation will be held Thursday at the Brewton Church of Christ at 10 A.M. with funeral services immediately following at 11 A.M. with Ministers Richard Rogers and Steve Lambert officiating. Interment will follow funeral services at Hoomesville Church of Christ Cemetery.

Pallbearers:  Austin Holmes, Adam Holmes, Philip Holmes, Jr., Drew Lambert, and Jason Pierce.
