The Dodgers continued their season-long excellent play by securing a May 22 win over the Red Sox that solidified their leading position in the East Brewton Little League's 11-12 year-old division.
The Dodgers-Red Sox matchup was the only game contested over the past week in the 11-12 year-old age group. A scheduled Dodgers-Cardinals meeting on May 20 was postponed due to rain and will be played at later date.
With only a week left in the regular season, the Dodgers (5-2) have clinched at least a tie for the 11-12 year-old title. The Cardinals follow in second place with a 3-3 record while the Red Sox round out the standings at 2-5.
Dodgers 1, Red Sox 0
This past Thursday's meeting between the Dodgers and Red Sox evolved into a duel between two of the league's premiere pitchers.
The Dodgers' William Shell and Tyler Nall of the Red Sox squared-off over six innings in a game that offered little in the way of offensive production due to the dominating forces on the mound. The two pitchers combined for 22 strikeouts while serving-up only four base hits the entire contest. The Dodgers, however, managed a lone run that proved to be the difference in a 1-0 win.
Shell's winning performance was highlighted by a one-hitter and 15 strikeouts.
Although Nall suffered the loss, he surrendered but three hits while striking-out seven.
In addition to their excellent games from the mound, Shell and Nall led their respective teams on the offensive end.
While Shell was going 2-for-3 and scoring the only run for the Dodgers, Nall led the Red Sox with a 1-for-2 performance at the plate.
