When youth football and baseball time comes around, many people may not realize where the funding for those sports come from.
United Fund - which provides money for Brewton Parks and Recreation and 15 other area agencies - is currently conducting its annual campaign.
In Brewton, it only costs $10 to play Babe Ruth and all you have to pay for is your pants - everything else is covered.
This year, Brewton had an Advanced Babe Ruth team for the first time and hosted the state tournament for that group in Brewton.
The board also sent a team to Huntsville, Sylacauga, and other areas as they had five Babe Ruth teams competing in post-season play. The board was able to provide them with funding from the community and from the United Fund.
United Fund's goal this year has been set at $90,000. The United Fund gives more than 99 cents of every dollar it raises to the 16 member agencies.
That means that the money that is given in Brewton will stay in Brewton. The fund drive will end in mid-December.
If you would like to donate, send your donations to United Fund of Brewton and East Brewton, P.O. Box 34, Brewton, 36427.
