Horace Winston Hobbs

Horace Winston Hobbs, 84, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family in Lillian.

Visitation is scheduled for today, July 6, at 9:30 a.m. with the funeral to follow at 10:30 a.m. at Lillian United Methodist Church.

He is survived by wife, Pat Sanspree Hobbs; three children, Winston Hobbs and wife, Lynn of Brewton; Keith Hobbs and life partner, Tommy Nix of Daphne, and Tony Hobbs and wife, Elizabeth of Lillian; sister, Myrtle Cost and husband, Gene of Jemison; sister, Geneva Brantley and husband, Harlan of Daphne; brother, Kenneth Hobbs and wife, Jamie of Naples, Fla.; three grandchildren, Brian Hobbs and wife, Jennifer, Heather Nelson and husband, Scott, and Hunter Hobbs; and eight great grandchildren, Jennings, Bryan, Herrington, Brody, Allen, Griffin, Avery and Sage.

He is preceded in death by his father, Boniford K. Hobbs; and mother, Katie Lee Hobbs.

He was born on August 23, 1931, in Wallace. He graduated in 1949 from Escambia County High School in Atmore. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953.

He married Pat on July 21, 1956. He worked as an electrician at Pensacola Naval Air Station for 12 years, and then three years at Allied Paper Co. in Jackson. He then worked 29 years as an industrial electrician at Jefferson Smurfit in Brewton, before retiring and moving to Baldwin County.

He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling. He was skilled at woodworking and loved making things with his hands.

He was an active and dedicated member of the Lillian United Methodist Church, and previously was ordained a deacon of the Baptist faith. He was also an active member of the Perdido Bay Optimist Club. His biggest pleasure was taking care of his family, which he tirelessly did throughout his life.

Wanda Jo Blackwell

East Brewton

 

Wanda Jo Blackwell, 54, passed away Sat., July 2, 2016, at her East Brewton residence.

Visitation will be held at Craver’s Funeral Home today, July 6, from at 11 a.m. until service time at noon with the Rev. Thomas Quick officiating.

Internment will follow at Fort Crawford Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jaime Hammac, John Majors, Samson Jones, Drew Marky, Markell Marshal, Josh Wiggins and Benny Hammac.

She was born in Flomaton and had been a life long resident of East Brewton.  She was a homemaker and was a member of First United Methodist Church of East Brewton.

She is survived by her father, Doc Hammac of East Brewton; two sons, Ricky Rowell of East Brewton, and Jason Rowell of Brent; four brothers, Jimmy Hammac, Timmy Hammac and Scotty Hammac, all of East Brewton, and Dennis Hammac of Spokane, Wash.; and one grandchild, Peyton Rowell of East Brewton.

Robert Randall Coxwell

Robert Randall Coxwell passed away July 3, 2016, at UAB Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at East Brewton Nazarene Church Sat,, July 9, at 3 p.m. No graveside service will be held.

He was born July 3, 1938, in Brewton. He joined the Army in July 1955 and served in Korea following the war. After marrying Nora Chase in California, they returned to East Brewton, where he spent the remainder of his life. He and Nora had three children, Ellen Coxwell Ryan, Robert A. Coxwell and Catherine E. Coxwell.

He enjoyed gardening and camping, but most of all he enjoyed fishing and visiting with friends. He gave away much of what he grew and caught, and enjoyed making gumbo and other meals to share with friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nora; mother, Mary S Coxwell; and his brother, Douglas Watson.

He is survived by his children; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his brother, James Watson.
