You think you got game on the court? Well no need to look any further to put your skills to the test. Teams of no more than five players, ages 19 and up, can take part in the first annual 3-on-3 basketball tournament held at the John L. Fisher Center on Sat., Jan. 14. Registration will take place onsite after the conclusion of the Martin Luther King Jr. Parade at 1 p.m. There is a $10 fee for all teams.

First place prize will be $250 to $300. The second place team will receive $50 plus free entry to the next tournament with same team. The third place team will receive $25 plus free entry to the next tournament with the same team.

The tournament will be single game elimination. A 20-minute clock will be enforced. Each team will have two timeouts per game.

The event is one of numerous activities sponsored by the Brewton Precinct of the Alabama Democratic Conference. President of the Democratic Conference, Joe Watson, said the idea of the basketball tournament is to give teens and up a fun, family oriented activity to watch and participate in after the parade.

“It’s the first time we’re doing the basketball tournament,” Watson said. “Basketball is a fun sport to watch and participate in, especially for the young kids. The event we’ll be a great complimentary with our other festivities like face painting, jumpers and volleyball. There will be musical entertainment and food vendors also. I really look for it to be a day of fellowship, where families can come together and have a good time.”

Before the festivities will be the Martin Luther King Jr. Parade which will begin at noon in the open lot behind the old Pic N Sav, and concluding at the John L. Fisher Center. Floats in the parade will be competing for a cash prize and trophy. The theme of the parade is “Keeping the Dream Alive”.

Watson said there are still openings to volunteer in the tournament or serve in other areas during the parade and in post events. To volunteer or for more information contact Watson at 251.809.5423.
