Calling all young actors

February is going to be a very artistic month as the Brewton Council of the Arts announces two upcoming performances.

First, the group is inviting young vocalists and thespians to participate in the Missoula Children’s Theatre production of “Peter and Wendy.”

The search will begin Mon., Feb. 6, for some 60 students to feature in the production, which will take the stage on Sat., Feb. 11, at the Jefferson Davis Community College auditorium.

“So that means that between that Monday and Saturday, our very talented local children will be selected, learn their parts and put on a fabulous show for all of the community to see,” said local BCA member and show organizer Shea Smith.

Students in kindergarten through 12th grade are encouraged to audition for a spot.

The approximately two-hour long auditions will begin promptly at 3:30 p.m. on the JDCC stage that Monday, Smith said.

“And while we’d love to be able to give a part to everyone who auditions, there aren’t enough spots,” she said.

Those chosen are expected to be at practice each afternoon from 3:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Younger actors are usually finished by 5:30 p.m.

Costumes are provided for the show.

The public show will be held at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students age 6 and up. Children age 4 and 5 are $1. Those younger are free.

Then, on Thurs., Feb. 16, bluegrass will fill the auditorium as Steep Canyon Rangers “effortlessly walk the line between festival favorite and sophisticated string orchestra.”

Tickets at the door will be $15 for adults and $8 for students. JDCC students and faculty are admitted free with their student ID.
