A supervisor at the Escambia County Detention Center was fired today and charged with third-degree assault after an incident involving a Taser and another detention center employee.
Chief Deputy John Gleaton said the supervisor was "angry about the employee's lack of response" to the supervisor's questions, so he drew the Taser and struck the employee with two probes on the back of his leg.
Sudan Nelson, the injured employee, was on leave Thursday after having been treated an released at D.W. McMillan Hospital.
"The Escambia County Sheriff's Office has a strict use of force policy that precludes the use of these Taser devices in this manner, and any misuse of these devices by employees is strictly enforce," Gleaton said in a statement.
