Tiger baseball falls to Excel

The T.R. Miller Tiger baseball team dropped to 7-12 on the season with a doubleheader loss to the Excel Panthers Tuesday night in Brewton.
The Panthers defeated the Tigers 2-1 in game one and 12-6 in the nightcap game.
In game one, Sam Sharpe took the loss on the mound for T.R. Miller. Sharpe went seven innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits, five strikeouts, and walked three.
Garrett Robinson led the Tigers with a 2-for-3 showing at the plate with a double. Seth Holland was 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored.
Corey Williams was 1-for-3 and Will Waters was 1-for-3. Chris Griffin added the lone RBI for the Tigers in the loss.
In game two, Excel scored two runs in the third and fourth innings and three in the fifth and sixth innings to key a 12-6 win over the Tigers.
James Hamric took the loss on the mound for the Tigers. He went four innings and allowed five runs (two earned) on six hits and walked two.
Three other pitchers pitched in the loss. Robert Knowles, Derek Busby and Dylan Smith went for one inning each.
Knowles allowed three runs (none earned) on two hits and struck out one.
Busby allowed three runs and three hits striking out three and walking one.
Smith allowed one run and one hit with no walks.
Corey Williams was 1-for-3 at the plate with one run and one RBI in the loss.
Wes Dickey was 1-for-3 with a double and a run to lead the Tigers.
Griffin was 1-for-4 in the game at the plate for the Tigers.
After falling behind 5-0 in the top of the fourth, the Tigers added four runs in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 5-4.
After cutting the lead to one, Excel added seven runs in the final three innings of play with six coming over the fifth and sixth innings.
The Tigers added two in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead in half, but failed to score anymore and fall by six.
On Wednesday, the Tigers improved to 8-12 overall and 3-2 in area play.
The team defeated the Hillcrest Jaguars of Evergreen 12-1 in Evergreen.

The Tigers took a 5-0 lead into the bottom of the third inning before the Jaguars got on the board with a run to cut the lead to 5-1.
The Tigers added one run each in the top of the fourth and fifth innings to take a 7-1 lead and then added five in the top of the sixth to take a 12-1 lead and hold on for the 11-run lead in six innings of play.
John Mathieu led the Tigers at the plate offensively going 2-for-2 with three runs and three RBIs and a triple and earned the win on the mound for the Tigers.
On the mound for the Tigers, Mathieu went six innings to get the win and allowed one run (none earned) on two hits and struck out seven and walked two.
Blake Crosby was 2-for-3 on the day with a run scored for the Tigers. Corey Williams was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs as Seth Holland, Chris Griffin and Will Waters were 1-for-3 each with two runs scored. Sam Sharpe was 1-for-2 in the win.
In the top of the first, Williams led the inning off with a Jaguar error as Waters walked and Mathieu was hit by pitch. The Tigers would score two runs in the innings to take an early 2-0 lead.
After a 3-0 lead after two innings of play, Waters led the inning off with a double as Crosby singled in a run for the Tigers as the Tigers claimed a 5-0 lead.
In the top of the sixth, Holland led the inning off with a single as Williams had a single and a RBI for the Tigers. Cody Swain added a single as Mathieu tripled in three runs for a five run inning as the Tigers took the win by a score of 12-1.
