Serving food for the body and soul isn’t just an everyday thing for Lisa and Freddie McMillan.
The pair is hard at work, along with volunteers, preparing for two days of feasts for the Christmas holidays.
Drexell & Honeybee’s Donation’s Only Restaurant will open their doors a little earlier than usual on Christmas Eve.
The Community Appreciation Christmas Eve breakfast/brunch will be served from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., Lisa said.
“We will have bacon, sausage, ham, pancakes, French toast, cheese and bacon grits, biscuits and toast on the menu,” Lisa said. “We will also have some great hot apple cider, coffee, orange juice and apple juice.”
Freddie and Lisa will be back at it on Christmas Day serving up a traditional holiday meal.
“We serve everyone from the youngest generation to the oldest,” Lisa said. “Everyone has a seat at our table.”
That buffet table will be filled with holiday favorites on Christmas including ribeye roast with potatoes and carrots, smoked turkey, smoked ham, cornbread dressing, mixed greens, sweet potato soufle, greenbeans, corn chowder, mashed potatoes, rutabagas, red velvet cake, lime cake, cornbread and plenty of drinks.
Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The restaurant operates on donations and grants to keep the refrigerators full and feed the need throughout the community.
During last week’s meeting of the Brewton City Council, the mayor and councilors took pleasure in presenting the McMillan’s with a $3,000 to aid in their continuing efforts to feed those in need throughout the community as well as surrounding areas.
Drexell & Honeybee’s Donation’s Only Restaurant is located at 109 Lee Street in historic downtown Brewton. To contact the McMillan’s you may come by the restaurant during operating hours or call them at 251-727-2431.
