Brewton City councilors approved an item on Monday’s meeting agenda that will have children of all ages squealing with delight in the near future.

With the approval of a parts purchase from Struthers Recreation, the beginning phase of an installation of a splash pad at Alco Park has begun.

Brewton Mayor Yank Lovelace said once the installation is complete, there will be a total of three splash pads in the city. The other two are at Dogwood Hills Park on north Douglas Avenue and at the J.L. Fisher Center on Liles Boulevard.

“This will be three splash pads for us,” Lovelace said. “We will now have splash pads in all areas of the city for our residents.”

Although no specific start or completion dates were given, the work is expected to move forward following Monday’s purchase approval.
