The alarm sounds and firefighters spring into action to save lives and property everyday. Brewton area residents are being encouraged to take steps to prevent house fires during national fire prevention week Oct. 5 through 11.
Weaver said to bring awareness to home fire prevention, members of the Brewton Fire Department will be visiting schools and speaking to organizations throughout the recognition week.
Weaver said a special demonstration will be given at the close of the week of recognition at Douglas Square.
Weaver said firefighters will also continue to install smoke alarms for Brewton residents.
Weaver also reminded those with alarms to change batteries once a year to keep the alarms in good working order.
Weaver said old alarms may become dysfunctional after a period of time as well and replacing smoke alarms is essential in many cases.
Safety is at the top of a priority list for Brewton firefighters, Weaver said.
