Staff Sgt. Derrick E. Richardson, 37, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2008. He was a native of Evergreen and a member of the Greater Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church. He was a 1990 graduate of Hillcrest High School, a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Persian Gulf, South Korea, Germany, Kuwait and Afghanistan in Bravo 11, based in Fort Hood, Texas. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Nellie Richardson; his father, Willie E. Travis; and his father-in-law, Elbert Booker.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Richardson; three daughters, Tyania Richardson and LaTeasa Booker, both of Montgomery and Breionka Richardson of Columbus, Ga.; two sons, Jeremy Booker of Montgomery, and Jesse Booker of Castleberry; his mother, Williesten Richardson of Castleberry; his adopted father, the Rev. James L. (Windy) Dees of Tulsa, Okla; one grandson, Jayden Booker of Montgomery; his mother-in-law, Mavis Booker of Evergreen; six sisters, Shirley (David) Dukes and Lynetta (Leon) Nared, both of Montgomery, Wanda Williams of Hattiesburg, Miss., Diane Moye of Castleberry, Latescha (Brandon) McMeans of Georgiana, and Ashley Travis of Brewton; 10 brothers, Alfred (Tiffany) Richardson, Bryant (Roberta) Richardson and Jackson Richardson, all of Castleberry, Huey (Kim) Dees of Andalusia, Torre Dees and Errick Dees, both of Tulsa, Okla., Darren Jones, Marvin L. Armstrong, both of Battle Creek, Mich., Christoph Travis and Cardarius Travis, both of Brewton; three uncles, Frank (Lovella) Richardson of Pensacola, Fla., Walt L. (Mattie) Richardson of Castleberry and Willie J. (Annie) Holder of Evergreen; an adopted uncle, R. John (Annie Mae) Meeks; eight aunts, Marie Scott, Ella Richardson, Earsie Richardson of Castleberry; Elsie Black, Thelma Holder and Martha (West) Booker, all of Evergreen, Ida Crooks of Pensacola and Odessa Holder of Redford,, Mich.; a grandmother-in-law, Madie G. Booker of Evergreen; three sisters-in-law, Sabrena Booker, LaRhonda Booker of Montgomery, Sharron George of Fayetteville, N.C.; four brothers-in-law, Trent Booker of Montgomery, Avery Booker of Atlanta, Ga., Willie C. (Josephine) Holder and Elbert Booker, both of Evergreen; and other friends, relatives and military buddies.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 22, at 2 p.m. at Greater Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. John Meeks officiating. Burial followed at Greater Nazarene Cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.
