Mrs. Cleo Turner Smith, 79, of Madden Smith Loop, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, in a Jay, Fla., medical facility after an extended illness. She was a native of Century, Fla., and a former resident of Houston, Texas, before moving to Brewton in 1983. She was an active member of Appleton Assembly of God Church, a member of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years, and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Judy Diane Sweet and her brothers, Leroy Turner and Leon Turner.
She is survived by her husband, Hardie E. Smith Sr. of Brewton; a son, Eddie (Donna) Smith of Brewton; a daughter, Kathy Smith of New Braunfies, Texas; a brother, J.W. Turner of Lillian; two sisters, Louise Trawick of Pensacola, Fla,. and Mary Nan (Bob) Jopp of Elberta; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.
Funeral services were held Tuesay, Dec. 9, at 11 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Russ McDonald officiating. Burial followed at the Smith Family Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
