After nine weeks of regular season football, the T.R. Miller Tigers head into the final week of the 2009 regular season against archrival W.S. Neal in the Battle of Murder Creek.
This year, the Tigers enter the Battle of Murder Creek with an 8-1 record, have clinched the No. 2 seed in their region and are set to host a round one playoff game against Abbeville.
W.S. Neal comes into the game with a 2-7 record and went 0-7 in their class 4A region 1 schedule.
W.S. Neal is coming off a 42-7 loss to B.C. Rain last Friday night while T.R. Miller is coming off a 40-14 homecoming win over Choctaw County.
T.R. Miller Tiger head coach Jamie Riggs said he was pleased with the homecoming win Friday night”
While the homecoming win may have been a good win for his team to close out region play, Riggs always likes to end the season with a win in the Battle of Murder Creek.
Riggs said that on offense, W.S. Neal has some size and some skill people with not only Nicholson but three or four other guys that can do something with the ball.
Defensively, W.S. Neal has given up 359 points this season while T.R. Miller has scored 341.
While that is an average of 40 points a game, the Eagle defense has been put in some bad predicaments this season.
Neal’s offense has only scored 124 total points this season for an average of about 14 points a game.
The game is almost a mirror image of last season’s game. The difference this year is that T.R. Miller has one loss on their record this season and ended W.S. Neal’s two-game win streak last season with a 55-0 win at home.
While the Eagles have struggled this season and have a 2-8 record, Riggs thinks his team will be focused during the week and at game time.
Following the W.S. Neal game Friday night the Tigers of Brewton will begin play in the class 3A state football playoffs against class 3A region two, No. 3 seed Abbeville.
Abbeville is currently 5-4 overall and finished 4-3 in region play.
The Yellow Jackets will play host to the team frm Carroll this Friday.
