Ron and Alex Sherwood recently won the 2003 Couples Classic Golf Tournament held at the Country Club of Brewton. They competed in the Championship flight.
The tournament, which was held June 28 and 29, had five flights with 41 couples playing. Players came from as far away as Kentucky to compete in the two-day event.
Other flight winners were Rick Haynes and Tish Wynn (First flight); Earle and Nan Wilson (Second flight); Joe Gonzales and Jackie Phillips (Third flight) and Bud and Sharon Wallace (Fourth flight).
In the Championship flight Steve Anderson and Nell Stuart took second place and Steve and Susan Baker took third.
Smokey and Jean Rigdon took second place in the First flight, with Tom and Appie O'Melia taking third. In the Second flight, Ron and Sarah Lee were runners up and Ronnie Ward and Vicki Dobbs finished third.
B.J. and Jo Griffin finished second in the Third flight followed by Wilburn Perry and Joy Dasinger. In the Fourth flight, Kevin and Pam Bell finished second and Jim and Charlotte Hartley were third.
Prizes were awarded in closest to the pin contests on the par- three holes. Earl Wilson, Judy Brown and Jerry Brown were local players who won prizes on those holes.
Hole 7 featured prizes sponsored by First Progressive Bank.
