Coming up with unique fund-raising ideas has been the focus of Relay for Life teams this year, with two teams even using toilets to help fight cancer.
Team members from Verobella Salon and First United Methodist Church have already raised funds for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event by placing a toilet in yards this week.
Gina Hart, a member of the Verobella team, said the idea was one the entire team came up with together.
The team at First United Methodist Church is also doing a toilet bowl delivery program to secure donations for Relay for Life.
Donations that get the FUMC bowl delivered is $20. Team captain Leeza Nelson said that for $20, you can specify where the toilet is delivered and $15 will have the toilet removed from your yard. For those who never want to have the toilet found on their lawn, a $25 insurance policy can be purchased to prevent delivery and insure delivery to the lawn of your choice.
Each team has decorated their toilet differently. Verobella’s toilet is multicolored with spots, while FUMC’s toilet is painted purple.
To order delivery of either toilet, contact Verobella at 809-0570 or First United Methodist Church at 867-8051.
Other teams involved in raising funds for Relay for Life have come up with a variety of events that will allow residents throughout the community to be involved in the fight against cancer.
