Lavon Askew

Mr. Lavon “Von” Askew, 59, died Friday, May 21, 2010. He was a native and resident of Brewton, after residing in Detroit, Mich. He was educated in the Brewton City School System. After moving back to Brewton, he worked for more than 20 years with T.R. Miller Mill Company.  He was a member of Second Saint Siloam Baptist Church and he was preceded in death by his father, Albert Askew; two sisters, Mary Hill and Emma Wicker; and a brother, Lonnie Askew.

He is survived by his wife, Lillie Askew of Brewton; his mother, Mary Ann Askew of Brewton; his daughter, Sharecka (Mark) Askew; four sons, Marcus (Ada), Howard (Jamonica), and Anjovan (Shameka), all of Brewton; three sisters, Lillie Sanders and Elaine Hall, both of Brewton, and Clara (Lavon) Williams of Detroit; a brother, Curtis Askew of Brewton; 18 grandchildren; an aunt, Nellie Diggs of Abbeville; a host of other friends and family; and a special devoted friend, Pearl Stallworth.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 21, at 11 a.m. at Second Saint Siloam Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie J. Blue officiating and Christian Memorial Funeral Home directing.
