James R. Murphy

Mr. James R. Murphy, 70, of Ridge Road Community, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010 after a extended illness. He was a native and life long resident of Escambia County. He was of the Baptist faith, owner/operator of Murphy Construction Company for 39 years and was a park attendant with the Army Corp. of Engineers for the past three years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Callie Mae Murphy, and a granddaughter, Hannah Lynn Bodiford.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nell Worthington Murphy of Brewton; his girls, Dana (Tim) Boggs,Kina (Ronnie) Burkett, and Khristi (James) Ates, all of Brewton; three brothers, Billy (Catherine) Murphy and Paul (Sharon) Murphy both of Brewton, and Larry (Paula Jean) Murphy of Flomaton; one sister, Wanda (Russell) Griffin of Brewton; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, Nov. 23, at 10 a.m. at Elim Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Boggs officiating and Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
