All summer, people in Brewton have been asking, "When is Channel 6 coming back?" Finally we have an answer -- it's back and has the potential to be better than ever.
While people at the Alabama Technology Network were good stewards of Channel 6 in the recent past, it makes more sense for the city to play a bigger role in operation of the station. Now Channel 6 will have the best of both worlds -- housed at city hall and under the city's control, but also under the direction of Doug O'Barr who worked with Channel 6 while employed by the Alabama Technology Network.
The city has ambitious plans for our hometown station, hoping to provide more community programming and planning partnerships with other groups. In the long run, the city has the creative and technical resources to start generating quality community-focused program that should appeal to many people.
In the meantime, viewers who have been missing Coffee with the Mayor and Mabry will soon see new episodes on Channel 6. And the station is back on the air just in time to show T.R. Miller High School footbal games, as Brewton sports fans are accustomed.
Good luck and thanks to the city of Brewton and O'Barr for their work on one facet of our community that keeps people connected.
