As Escambia County residents make progress in recovering from the effects of Hurricane Ivan, safety is critical. Brewton Fire Chief Lawrence Weaver provided the following safety reminders:
If the generator is not properly connected, it can back feed, he said. If it hits a transformer, it can convert to 7,200 volts and kill somebody working on a power line, he said. Secondly, he reminds people that generators need to be outdoors.
