During and after Hurricane Ivan hit the area, Escambia County Schools were closed for eight days, and the state requires that those days be made up so that students are in school the required minimum number of days this year.
In order to accomplish this, Thanksgiving holidays will be cut down to two days, Nov. 25-26; Christmas holidays will begin on Dec. 22 rather than Dec. 17; a teacher work day will be moved from Jan. 4 to Jan. 3; Easter holiday on March 25 will be eliminated and teachers and students will attend for one-half day on May 20.
