No charges in Legion Hall death

The Brewton Police Department is investigating the Thursday death of a Brewton man at the American Legion Hall.
Brewton Police Chief David Lovelace said Officer Brandon Burkett responded to a call at 3:02 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30., to the American Legion Hall, located on Hwy. 31, with a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival he found Bruce Howington, 47, male, of Hart Road, Brewton, lying on the floor with a subject holding him down with his arms around Howington's neck trying to restrain him.
Paramedics were called but Howington did not respond. Lovelace declined to name the second man., but said there is an ongoing investigation led by Sgt. Eric Suarez. The police have called the Alabama Bureau of Investigation to assist and they are awaiting the results of forensic reports. No charges have been filed at this time.
