The first-round playoff matchups between Class 3A Region 1 and Region 3 are much more clear after Friday's games.
All four playoff participants were determined in Region 1 after T.R. Miller knocked off W.S. Neal 38-7 and Slocomb beat Dale County 40-20.
T.R. Miller's win clinched the region championship as well as a number one seed and home game in the opening round of playoff competition. Meanwhile Straughn earned the number two seed as well as a first-round home playoff game with its 18-15 win over Pike County.
Despite its loss to Straughn, Pike County clinched its berth in the playoffs as well as Slocomb. Both of those teams are tied for third place headed into next week's final region games. Ironically Pike County will host Slocomb next Friday. The winner of that game will grab the number three seed out of Region 1, while the loser will be the fourth seed. Both Slocomb and Pike County will be on the road in the opening round of the playoffs.
Meanwhile all four playoff spots in Region 3 were also filled Friday by West Blocton, Clarke County, Midfield and Aliceville.
Midfield (6-0 region, 8-0 overall) clinched that region championship plus a number one seed and home game with its 39-0 victory over Francis Marion.
Clarke County (5-1, region, 7-1 overall) clinched the number two seed from that region and a home game after its 43-8 win over Northside. Clarke County has the second spot assured due to head-to-head victories over third place teams Aliceville and West Blocton.
Aliceville and West Blocton (both 4-2 in region and 6-2 overall) are tied for the third spot although Aliceville owns the head-to-head tiebreaker. Aliceville will get the third seed if it beats Francis Marion or if Midfield beats West Blocton Friday.
