Former classmates and friends of Stephanie Marie King plan to honor her memory Sunday with a candlelight vigil at 6:30 p.m. at the gazebo in Brewton City Park.
Miss King, who was murdered in 1988, would have turned 33 this Sunday. The man serving a life sentence for her murder, Edward Russell Dubose, is scheduled to have a parole hearing in Montgomery Monday morning.
Holly Hart Shirley said when news of the parole hearing hit the media, the T.R. Miller Class of 1989 responded en masse.
Three members of the class - Mrs. Shirley, Aaron Raluerson and Amy Goolsby Ennis, all plan to speak at the parole hearing on Monday.
Miss King's death changed many of her classmates' lives, Mrs. Shirley said.
Ironically, many of her classmates were on the campus of Jefferson Davis Community College taking the ACT exam the morning she was abducted from Alco Baptist Church.
In the Class of 1989's announcement of the prayer vigil, class members stated they hope the prayer vigil will be a "positive effort to bring the community together to pray for the parole board to make the right decision for the state of Alabama for the King family to have strength throughout this ordeal, and to show that they will not stand by and allow Dubose to be released without a fight."
Those attending are asked to bring candles.
