The people who put their lives on the line every time they respond to a fire should be appreciated for what they do every day. Volunteer firefighters in particular are not paid for what they do; protecting their communities is just something they think is important.
Some volunteer firefighters go the extra mile. A group of them from throughout the county have been taking classes since April in order to be given the designation of "certified firefighter."
Many people do volunteer work, and that's a commendable effort, but most volunteer work is relatively safe.
A group of volunteers from the Brewton Fire Department and the volunteer fire departments of Poarch, Lambeth, Roberts and Appleton, spent hours of their own time to be able to do a better job protecting this county from fire.
When you encounter volunteer firefighters, thank them for what they do. They keep you safe at their own expense and time, with only the satisfaction of knowing they are helping the community.
