Mr. Horace Edward Johnson, 89, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004. He was a native of Uriah and had resided in Brewton since 1978. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II, was an active member of the NAACP, the International Benevolent Society and was chairman of the Deacons of the West Florida/South Alabama Association of the Primitive Baptist Church for many years. He served as a city councilman for the city of Brewton from 1988 to 1992. He was a school teacher and owned his own general contracting business in Michigan. He was a member of Old Springhill Primitive Baptist Church where he served as a trustee and chairman of the deacon board.
He is survived by his daughter, Joyce Thompson; two brothers, Dave Johnson Jr. and Charles Johnson; a sister, Esther J. Lett; three aunts, Carrie B. Hendrieth, Willie Golden and Lillian Golden; one grandchild and a host of other friends and relatives.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 27, at 11 a.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church in Frisco City with the Rev. Sandy McQueen and Elder Norman Miller officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.
