There were no individuals who voiced concerns during a public hearing last week over Mediacom's local cable franchise, but several members of the Brewton City Council questioned company representatives about local practices.
The hearing was held last week as part of preparations for the expiration of its franchise on Sept. 10, 2006. City Clerk John Angel said the city is working with a consultant to ensure that all parts of the city's agreement with Mediacom are being met. A report is expected in the spring.
Barbara Bonowisz, the company's director of governmental relations, said the company will add telephone service to its products in the near future.
But council members were more interested to learn when the local office, closed since the building was damaged in September, would re-open.
Several council members reported that constituents in their districts had dropped off payments at the closed local office that were not credited to their accounts.
Council member Ann Marie Sasser questioned Bonowisz about cable that had not been buried for six years.
Bonowisz said the company has a new service manager for Escambia County, and issues like those shouldn't be a problem in the future.
