The deadline for paying property taxes in Alabama is fast approaching, and Escambia County Tax Collector Joy Wiggins reminds landowners that the courthouse will be observing holiday hours this week and next.
Wiggins said if property owners do not make it to the courthouse before closing time on Thursday, Dec. 30, they can still avoid paying late fees and penalties if their tax payment is postmarked on Dec. 31, 2004.
Despite hardships caused by Hurricane Ivan, Wiggins said response to the property tax notices mailed at the end of September has been about normal.
She reminds local property owners whose property was damaged by Hurricane Ivan that they have until Dec. 31 to notify the tax assessor's office for the damage to be considered in the property taxes due next December.
