Thomas C. "Tony" Hanks

Mr. Thomas C. "Tony" Hanks, 61, died Jan. 5, 2005, at a local hospital. He was a native of Frisco City, but had been a resident of Jay for the past 37 years and was a member of the Gospel of Light Temple Church in Century. He was the founder and owner of H &H Drywall Contractors. He was preceded in death by his parents, Burley and Jewel Hanks and a brother, Kent Hanks.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Hanks of Jay; a son, Matt Hanks of Jay; a daughter, Angie (Devon) Nelson of Jay; five sisters, Genene Baggett of McCullough, Glenda Averett and Elizabeth Johnson, both of Atmore, and Tiny Waters and Mary Griffis, both of Flomaton, and three grandchildren, Paul Thomas Black, Candace Black and Courtney Black.
Funeral services were held, Sunday, Jan. 9, at 2 p.m. at the Gospel Light Temple in Century, Fla., with the Rev. Wallace Reid, the Rev. Bobby Carnley and the Rev. J.B. Johnson officiating. Burial followed at Ebenezer Cemetery in Jay, with Eastside Chapel Funeral Home directing. Active pallbearers were Matt Hanks, Chad Hanks, Wade Harris, Johnny Griffis, Jamie Waters and Dennis Griffis. Honorary pallbearers were J.T. Fowler, Arthur Nelson, Tommy Nelson, Tony Owens, Melvin Carnley and Dr. C. David Smith.
